Known for their hospitality and love of music, every tourist must explore the Tangkhul hills and their culture.
The Tangkhul is the name of one of the biggest Naga tribe who resides in India and Myanmar. The Tangkhuls reside majorly in the Ukhrul district of Manipur; whereas in Myanmar, the Tangkhuls reside in Somra, Layshi, Homalin and Tamu. The common language spoken is called “Tangkhul” as the tribe itself named. It is one of the first tribal language included in the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) in North East India. Since the year 2011 any student taking Tangkhul language can appear CBSE exams for 10th and 12th standard throughout India.
The little town of Ukhrul came to being the most happening town for the Tangkhuls. Thousands of students pouring in every year from other villages, and it is the most active commercial hub of the Tangkhul. There are numerous places to visit like the Shirui hills, Phangrei, Khangkhui Cave, Nilai Tea Garden in Taloi and many more.
The small town of Ukhrul has only a handful of Banks, schools and hospitals.
